Dundee West MP Chris Law has backed the growing campaign for a Fashion Watchdog, following calls for support for the Transform Trade campaign by Scottish Soroptimists.
Members of Soroptimist International met at Dundee’s Discovery Point on Saturday 3rd June to discuss issues around fast fashion and how communities can collectively transform the fashion trade to work for all involved. As part of the conference, members handed over crafted handmade dogs to Chris Law for delivery to Scottish MPs who have not yet backed the campaign.

A Fashion Watchdog, initially proposed in the Fashion Supply Chain Adjudicator Bill, would ensure that fashion companies were held responsible for mistreatment of suppliers and workers, and encourage more ethical behaviour in the wider industry. Fifty-nine Members of Parliament have so far backed Transform Trade’s campaign and signed a pledge to support a Fashion Watchdog.
Dundee West MP Chris Law said:
“It was fantastic to welcome members of Soroptimist International to my city of Dundee and to take part in just some of their day’s conference on the global issues around fast fashion.
“I have been proud to support the campaign for a Fashion Watchdog, which seeks to ensure a fairer fashion industry for all involved, and I will be backing efforts in Parliament to deliver this.
“Campaigns like this one by Transform Trade and supported by Soroptimist International are vital in raising awareness of the need for further oversight of damaging practices in the fashion industry.”
Anne McAlister and Aileen Eland, from Soroptimist International, said:
“We are delighted to support the Transform Trade campaign for a Fashion Watchdog for the UK. We have heard today about the issues around the garment industry and the need for change that values people over profit. Soroptimists will continue to work together to make a difference.”
