SNP MP criticises UK failure to condemn Azerbaijan over Lachin corridor protests

Dundee West MP Chris Law has written to the UK Government to criticise its failure to join allies on the UN Security Council in condemning Azerbaijan, following protests on the country’s Lachin corridor which have cut off 120,000 ethnic Armenians from food and medical supplies.

Reports from the UN Security Council have suggested that the UK joined Russian diplomats in actively ensuring that a Resolution condemning the ongoing blockade was not brought forward or approved.

In the letter to the Foreign Secretary, Mr Law said: “Given Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, it should be unthinkable that any UK Government would support human rights in Ukraine yet work in parallel with Russia to deny the condemnation of continuing violations in Nagorno-Karabakh.”
